Many times companies will tell me: I have no need for an employment agency- I just post an ad on Craigslist!
What hiring managers don’t realize is that the job section on Craigslist is like the Wild, Wild West- a vast wasteland of many scammers, and fraudulent postings. Job seekers are getting more and more discouraged, trying to weed out the postings for the one or two legitimate jobs listed on the site. Many are shying away from this method of job searching and putting their time to more productive uses.
Therefore, the candidates now using the site may not be the “cream of the crop” anymore. My advice to the employers that are still trying to use Craigslist to hire for themselves: why not interview one or two people from an agency in addition to the pool from Craigslist? There is no obligation, and I am certain most employers will agree that the quality of agency candidates are better.
